Founded in 2005 by Gwen Stefani, a platinum-selling American pop musician, both with her band No Doubt and as a solo artist. In September 2008 Gwen Stefani, launched a surprise of five fragrance collection devoted to Harajuku fans. It’s well know that Gwen Stefani has a fascination with Japanese street fashion and youth culture, that inspired the Harajuku Lovers fashions and fragrances. The fragrances are produced in conjunction with Coty. So when they were launched they came in the form of small dolls, each of which had its own character, style, and perfumed note.
The five fragrances represents different styles of women and each of the dolls contains of two parts. The upper part is the doll itself, fitted on a pedestal-like glass base filled with the fragrance. The outer boxes give a story of the perfume doll enclosed inside. The fragrances are distinguished by the kawaii or “adorableness” of the packaging, which represents Gwen Stefani, the “G” dolls with blonde hair and her four back-up dancers, Love, Angel, Music and Baby in various costumes and poses. You’ve gotta admit it that her perfume bottles are pretty darn 可愛い — that’s kawaii, which is Japanese for “cute! But how do these scents smell?
