The Art of Scent Layering

Have you ever though about layering up your perfumes? It’s a perfect way to create a signature event. Layering scents doesn’t necessarily mean spraying two perfumes directly on top of each other, it can start as early as when you apply a scented lotion after your shower. Layering doesn’t mean applying everything on the skin. Try misting your undergarments with fragrance X and apply fragrance Y on your skin.

Or, you can spray one scent on your wrists and another on your neck. You should really put the heavier scent on first,  and as layering scents doesn’t necessarily mean spraying two perfumes directly on top of each other—it can start as early as when you apply a scented lotion after your shower. Start with by showering with a shower gel that smells like your favourite scent and where to apply areas of application are: wrists, back of the ears, and the back of the knees. These are pulse points and warm the oil in your fragrance so that it continues to emit a delicate scent.

Perfumes are made up of top notes: Your first scent impression and is also referred to as “opening” or “head” notes. And these are the notes that usually hit you first, but don’t last very long, more light and fresh. Then there are the middle notes: These make up the body of the blend a or heart notes. These heart notes, will come to fruition on your skin overtime. They’re not immediately evident, like top notes, but develop on the skin over time. They’re usually warmer and softer aromas. Base Notes: Normally the most intense and heavy of the notes that appear once the top notes have worn off. Provides the lasting impression of the fragrance. Try to combine two fragrances that have a common note jasmine, for instance and go from there. Or, if you’re adventurous, try combining two or more opposite fragrances spice and a vanilla, for instance.
